Couples Counseling: A Clear Path Forward

Evidence-Based Help for Real Relationships

Every relationship faces challenges-but you don’t have to face them alone. At Roots & Reflections, couples counseling is a structured, compassionate process designed to help you and your partner reconnect, rebuild trust, and learn the skills to thrive together.

A Clear Path Forward: What to Expect

We use the Gottman Method, a research-based approach developed through over 40 years of studying what makes relationships succeed-or fail. Therapy begins with a thorough assessment phase followed by targeted interventions tailored to your unique dynamics.

Step 1: Relationship Assessment

We begin with a comprehensive evaluation of your relationship. This includes:

– Joint session to explore your goals and relationship history

– Individual sessions with each partner for deeper context

– Online Gottman Relationship Checkup – a science-based questionnaire that pinpoints strengths and challenges in areas like communication, intimacy, conflict, trust, and shared values

This gives us a clear, research-backed picture of what’s happening beneath the surface-so we don’t just treat the symptoms but get to the root of the patterns.

Step 2: Feedback & Treatment Planning

Once we’ve gathered all the assessment data, we meet to review:

– What’s working well in your relationship

– The recurring pain points and gridlocked issues

– A customized roadmap for moving forward-based on your specific needs and goals

This session lays the foundation for trust, clarity, and collaboration as we begin the real work together.

Step 3: Active Therapy & Gottman-Based Interventions

Using tools and techniques from the Gottman Method, we’ll work on:

– Improving communication with proven strategies for speaking and listening effectively

– Managing conflict in a healthy, respectful way

– Rebuilding trust after betrayal, disconnect, or emotional injury

– Strengthening friendship and emotional intimacy

– Creating shared meaning as a couple and aligning life dreams

Whether you’re seeking repair after a rupture or just want to deepen your connection, we help you build practical skills and emotional resilience for lasting change.

Why Couples Choose Roots & Reflections

– Science meets soul – grounded in the Gottman Method, adapted with warmth and clinical insight

– Collaborative process – you are partners in this work, not just participants

– No one-size-fits-all – your relationship is unique, and our work reflects that

– Tools you can use at home – real-life strategies, not just “talk therapy”

You don’t have to wait until things fall apart to get help. If you’re feeling stuck, distant, or disconnected-or just want to make a good relationship even stronger-let’s talk.
